Top 5 Strongest and Most Durable Materials for Construction

To live and function, people need places they can call home and places to work. These are possible thanks to the construction materials that societies have developed. These are the top five strongest and most durable materials for construction you need to use for outstanding work.

Wood

For decades, wood has been the primary resource for construction due to its versatility and strength. It’s lightweight, long lasting, and resistant to weather. Once its natural moisture disappears, it can be as resistant as stone. It does require maintenance, as insects such as termites can infest and attack it. Wood is still the main resource used for houses in the US.

Clay Bricks

Many of the long-standing buildings throughout history were made with this material. Processed clay bricks are easy to use, and they can overcome any weather, from storms to dry climates. Bricks are durable, fire resistant, and very convenient to work with.

Stainless Steel

With buildings getting bigger and taller, stainless steel is the perfect—and often only—solution to safely achieve enormous constructions. The taller the building, the more weight the walls must bear; only steel can handle this massive weight. Aside from its impressive strength, other advantages of stainless steel in construction include its corrosion resistance, high level of durability, and flexibility. It’s also very versatile, allowing workers to cut and weld it into the perfect pieces.

Concrete Mix

Concrete mix is a flexible material that you can pour into any-size mold, where it will harden. The material mixes different resources such as stone, sand, cement, and water. When combined, all of these have an overachieving power.

Concrete is usually added to constructions using stainless steel; the two go hand in hand. People built the tallest buildings in the world using concrete. This is one of the most popular materials out of the top five strongest and most durable materials for construction.

Modular Bamboo

Bamboo is one of the newest materials used in construction. And because of its sustainable approach, it’s becoming more and more popular. Some of its main properties are that it’s stronger than steel and completely natural; plus, it’s quick to grow and abundant. People have already used this material to develop hotels and homes. The future of construction is green—literally.
