Reaction injection molding is an incredibly affordable manufacturing technique that services various industries. Some of this method’s primary benefits include large part manufacturing, custom cosmetic finishings, and varying thickness levels. To further understand the process and why it is valuable, take a closer look at a few industries that benefit from this process.

Automotive Industry

The automotive industry heavily relies on the reaction injection molding process because many cosmetically appealing parts are necessary. Things like bumpers, quarter panels, and decorative trimmings apply to most, if not all, modern vehicles.

Automotive parts must be durable and flexible to accommodate shock resistance and strength. Some automakers use reaction injection molding for testing and prototyping purposes or showcase cars in display areas.

Healthcare Industry

One of the advantages of reaction injection molding is creating and producing large parts. The healthcare industry uses this process to manufacture intricately designed medical instruments. In some instances, reaction injection molding can produce whole devices such as DNA analyzers, full-body analyzers, and electronic spray structures.

Another critical attribute of reaction injection molding is the resistant polyurethane plastics available. This material can resist bacterial growth, which is a more hygienic option than other substances.

Heavy Equipment Manufacturing

Heavy equipment manufacturing also uses reaction injection molding to produce large parts. Things like light towers, heaters, and generators require intricate designs and accurate production. The polyurethane matter is resistant to corrosive properties where other materials would experience higher risk and various forms of wearing.

Reaction injection molding in heavy equipment manufacturing also gives the concept designers more control and customization options. The process can use what is known as B-side geometry, or mold-in inserts and in-mold painting processes.

Using this manufacturing method for these industries enables them to meet the market demands and create unique products. Without this process, the production of various components would be more expensive, time-consuming, and a burden overall.
